Xàtiva expresses through its monuments the outstanding place it has always occupied in history. Episcopal seat in the Visigothic era, lived a stage of cultural splendor during the Muslim rule. Later, after the Christian conquest, it was the second city of the Kingdom of Valencia and the birthplace of renowned personalities; the Borja family, who gave two popes, or the painter Josep de Ribera, the Españoleto. It was bastion of the Austrias in War of Spanish Succession. Its fire ordered by Felipe V, the first Bourbon enthroned in Spain, has been recorded in the city and in the memory of the people of Setabese, known since then with the nickname of socarrats.
Presided from the heights by the imposing Castell, the Collegiate Church or Seu, the Hospital Reial, the hermitages of Sant Feliu, Sant Josep and Santa Anna, the churches of Sant Pere and Sant Francesc, the Plaça de la Trinitat, the ex -convent of Sant Domènec, the birthplace of Pope Alexander VI, or the numerous palaces of the nobility of different eras.
